Surgery Services
Below are some of the key services that the Surgery provides, in alphabetical order:
Cervical Screening
It is important for women to have regular screening. If you are between 25-65 and have not had a test within the past 5 years, please contact the surgery to make an appointment.
Dietician
We have a community dietician who runs clinics at the practice and helps run our diabetic clinics. Referrals are made by the doctors and practice nurses.
Home Visits
It is preferable that patients are brought to the surgery, but if this is not medically possible a doctor can make a home visit if they feel this is appropriate. Requests for visits should be made between 8.30am – 11.00am whenever possible. you will be asked for details of the illness to help the doctor assess the necessity/urgency of the visit. Home visit requests after this time may be passed to the Out Of Hours service.
Out of Hours Cover
The practice is a member of the West Essex Primary Care Trust who are responsible for commissioning the out-of-hours service.
When the surgery is closed, patients must telephone the surgery main number where a recorded message will tell you the number to use to contact the Out of Hours service.
Please note that message cannot be left on this number.
Priest Surgery
Two Church of England priests have regular surgeries at the practice for patients to make appointments to discuss spiritual issues such as worried about the future and coping with chronic illness or terminal disease.
Psychologist
We have a psychologist who offers sessions at the surgery. Referrals are made by your GP.
Quit Smoking
If you need help giving up please see the practice nurse. Alternatively, ring the NHS smoking Helpline on 0800 169 0169, or visit www.givingupsmoking.co.uk.
Repeat Prescriptions
Repeat prescriptions are issued to patients at the discretion of their GP. You can request your repeat prescription by any of the following ways:
1. In person
2. By post, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope
3. Take your prescription to any LOCAL pharmacy
The items you require should be ticked on the second part of your previous prescription. Please do not request your repeat medication more than 5 working days before it is due as the computer system will reject requests made too early. Repeat prescriptions will be ready for collection 48 hours after the request has been received by the surgery. REQUEST FOR PRESCRIPTIONS BY TELEPHONE CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.
Results of Investigations
If you need to telephone the surgery for results of any tests, please telephone after 11.00am – when staff are not so busy. We emphasise that results cannot be given to anyone other than the patient concerned. Please note the receptionists can only pass on the message the doctor has left for you.
Temporary Residents
Temporary residents are welcome if their own GP is not within a reasonable distance and provided they are staying with registered patients of the practice.
Fees
Some of the services we provide are not covered by the NHS. You will therefore be asked to pay a fee, eg. private certificates, private health claims, pre-employment medicals, HGV/Taxi medicals, etc. These medicals are undertaken by special appointment, please contact the Practice Manager to make an appointment, which are outside of normal surgery times.
If you have any queries regarding fees, please speak to the Practice Manager.
