Appointments System

Morning Appointments

To obtain an appointment please telephone the Surgery between 08:30 - 10:00. You will be asked for your name and contact telephone number and a GP or nurse practitioner will call you back. If you then need to be seen the GP or nurse practitioner will book you an appropriate appointment. Each GP has a set number of appointments to offer, once these appointments have been allocated, regardless of the time, you may be asked to ring back the following morning.

If we can’t offer you an appointment that morning, we may, depending on availability, be able to book one for you at a nearby practice or health hub.

NHS 111 can help if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do. To find out more about the help that NHS 111 can provide, click here.

Afternoon/Evening Appointments

All afternoon and evening appointments must be booked in advance. Please note that appointments are for the person in whose name the appointment has been made. If you have a query about another member of your family please make an additional appointment. Appointments can be made 1 month in advance.

Extended Access

Evening and Weekend Appointments Available

Patients can see a GP, nurse or healthcare assistant for routine appointments in the evenings and over the weekends. The evening and weekend GP service offers additional, pre-booked appointments at convenient times to suit your needs. To book an evening or weekend appointment, contact us in the usual way. We will book an appointment at a local hub through our booking system, and ask permission to access your medical records. We will provide you with a date, time and location for your appointment. You will be seen by a GP, Nurse or healthcare assistant at a local health centre who may not be your own GP or nurse.

To find out more please go to https://hucweb.co.uk/services/gp-extended-access

The service operates from six locations across Epping Forest, Harlow and Uttlesford and appointments are booked through our receptionists.

This service is not a “walk-in service” and is for booked appointments only. For non-emergency but urgent medical appointments over the weekend please continue to call NHS 111. Should you need to change or cancel an appointment please call NHS 111 and select option 3.

Online Appointments

Once Covid 19 guidance permits, routine afternoon appointments will also be bookable online. To access our online booking system you will need to come into the surgery and register with reception. You will then be given your username and password.

Registering for our online service means that you can also order prescriptions online.

Important Information

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form by following the link shown below. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays).

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. If you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception between 08:30 - 11:00. Home visits requested after this time may be passed to the Out-of-Hours Service.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it, and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You can also be visited at home by a community Nurse if you are referred by your GP. You could also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Referrals

Your GP will discuss with you and, if appropriate, your carer, why a referral is being recommended. You are usually referred because your GP wants a specialist’s help in deciding how best to treat your condition or they do not have the equipment at the surgery for the required tests and investigations.

If your GP needs to refer you to a consultant-led service for a physical or mental health condition, your GP will tend to refer you to a local hospital near where you live that is part of the local healthcare system.

If you decide to see a private consultant (either because you have private medical insurance orwill pay the cost yourself) you will need a referral letter from the practice. Please allow a week for this to be prepared.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist when making the appointment and she will arrange this for you.
